The Ranbir Kapoor – Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra directed by Ayan Mukherji was released last week on Friday across over 5000 screens in India. Said to be one of the most keenly anticipated releases of recent times, the film came with much hype, hopes, and expectations. Surpassing trade expectations, Brahmastra opened with a bang drawing in Rs. 36 cr on Day 1, followed by the film’s business seeing good growth on its second and third day as well. In fact, Brahmastra managed to draw in Rs. 120.75 cr within just three days of its release.
In this box office report, we look at Ranbir Kapoor’s previous releases that have managed to make it past the Rs. 100 cr mark while comparing the same to Brahmastra. Not surprisingly, Brahmastra which collected Rs. 120.75 cr has become Ranbir’s fifth release to achieve this feat. When compared to his other releases, Brahmastra ranks third on the list surpassing Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which collected Rs. 112.48 cr, and Barfi which collected Rs. 112.15 cr. While on one hand, the opening weekend business of Brahmastra has managed to surpass the lifetime collections of most of Ranbir’s previous releases, it does not manage to compete with Sanju which collected Rs. 342.53 cr, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which collected Rs. 188.57 cr.
Going forward, Brahmastra which enjoys incredible trending at the box office is expected to see its collection grow further in the coming weekdays. In fact, trade predictions state that the film will eventually surpass the lifetime collections of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani as well to emerge as the actor’s second highest grosser ever.
